Swanson Road – Safety improvements done on Swanson Road starting from Airdrie Rd to Universal drive Swanson Road round about. This project was completed for Auckland Transport in partnership with John Fillmore Contracting.

Along Swanson Road Traffica Roading Services had 14 site locations to upgrade or newly build. These consisted of new foot path and Pram crossing or upgrading existing, installation of new Asphalt speed tables and surface paving, installation of new kerb and channel, Bus pad and bus shelter installation and installation of traffic islands.

Foot path and pram crossing reconstructed with 100mm of well compacted Gap 40 metal, boxed and overlayed with 100mm 20MPaconcrete to match with the existing foot path heights and safe grades for the road users. Including the installation of tactile pavers and broomed surface finish.

Kerb and channel construction for standard kerb and channel, kerb blocks laid on 20MPa concrete to the design kerb line.300mm channel is afterwards boxed and poured in with concrete. This project consisted of Aco kerb drains and Aco slab drains which utilised the kerb for drainage purposes instead of having to go about the conventional drainage methods.

Traffic island construction, mountable kerbs laid on concrete with a 100mm reveal from asphalt seal and infilled with20MPa concrete and 4kg/m3 red oxide with Broomed surface finish.

Asphalt speed tables and surface paving. Speed table areas were milled an extra 100mm deeper to have 2 layers of asphalt AC 14 deep lifts topped off with a 75mm high tabletop with perfectly hand formed entry and exit ramps followed by the newly paved 50mm surfaces to various extents depending on given design.

These improvements have given the residents in the community safer crossing facilities and safer driving routes due to the increasing development of the western Auckland sub. As Swanson Road is a high trafficable route these improvements reduce the possibility of pedestrian accidents and create a safer user experience for the local community.

Internal Services included: Traffic Management, Traffic Signals, Civil Crews, In house Paving Crew and Machinery.
