Auckland Transport engaged Traffica to improve road safety on a section of Hillsborough Road which was known for lot of traffic and pedestrian crashes. We installed a signalised pedestrian crossing directly outside Waikowhai Primary School on a section of road with a steep vertical alignment and a horizontal bend.
Our hydrovac team hydro-excavated and located the main fuel line to the Auckland Airport prior to beginning works. We worked closely with our client and the consultant to provide alternative options and designs for safe installation of the traffic signal poles which were on top of this critical fuel pipe and which met the stringent requirements and approval of the service provider.
This project required us to dig a trench across Hillsborough Road to install signals, along with the ducting, cabling and installation of traffic signals, poles, chamber, including reinstatement of footpath and berms works. High friction surfacing was also applied to the road surface which supported safer and more efficient braking of vehicles navigating the bend. This important work and safety improvements provided school children and other pedestrians with a safe place to cross this busy part of Hillsborough Road.
